Why Choose an Under Counter TV?

I find under counter TV´s very practical at places where you do not have so much space but still want to be able to follow the News and Sports on TV or your favorite TV shows.

I started out with a regular 20 inch LCD TV in my kitchen, but because it is standing on the kitchen desk it takes up a lot of space and tend to be very dirty and grease from the food preparation all the time.

Setting your TV up under the counter will save up a lot of space and does not get that greasy from the food preparation either and it only took me 5 minutes to set up my own.

The advantage of setting it up places like the children’s room is that the kids do not have direct access to the TV and will not make any drawings on or destroy the screen.

 

Picture Quality

I remember one of the first times I looked at an under counter TV was a few years back in an airplane. The picture quality on the screen was horrible and not something I wanted to buy.

Today the quality is far better, but still not as good as a regular 42″ LCD TV, but it is kind of OK because it serves it purpose, to entertain and make it possible for you to follow your shows while you are doing something else.

Screen Sizes

Normally under counter TV’s comes in sizes between 7″ and 15″ which makes it possible to set up almost anywhere. Personally I prefer the 15″ because I like to be able to see what going on on the screen from a certain distance with the smaller models I would have problems looking at the screen.

One of my worries when I bought my under counter TV from Amazon one of my worries was to be sure that the TV supported the standard that was available in my region which is the PAL standard. other ares in the world it would eight be ATSC or NTSC as in the United States. I soon realized that it was not a concern because practically all of them are able to show TV in all standards, so it is not a concern anymore like it was a few years back.

 

Brands

There are a couple of good brands when it comes to under counter TV’s. If you want to play safe Sony have their own model on this market. It is more expensive than the other models, but then you are guaranteed a certain quality. If you still want a well known brand but a TV at a cheaper price range Toshiba has a pretty good 15.6″ under counter TV available for almost half the price of what the Sony cost.

But there are much more options than that, brands like Audiovox, Venturer or Coby make some pretty good under counter TV’s as well at very compatible prices in what you will get for your money when it comes to features and quality.

 

Extra Features and Options

Another very important aspect to take into consideration are the extra features. Do you want a TV with build in DVD, CD player and and AM/FM radio? Or perhaps be able to rewrite DVD so you can save your favorite TV shows. Some of them even comes with audio/video input jack so you can plugin your Xbox or PlayStation, which is a very nice features if you plan to have an under counter TV in your bed room.

It is nice to have those extras, because often if you are doing the house cleaning it is nice to have the option to put a DC on or listen to the radio instead.

Most of the leading brands you will find on Amazon have all those features, but I recommend you to double check when you take a closer look at your preferred models, that they actually have the features you want.

Swivel Movement

A little feature that people often overlook is whether your TV is able to Swivel or not. Most of the models you will find on Amazon are able to swivel to 250-270 degrees but again it is a thing you need to double check if you want to buy an under counter TV.

 

Negatives

The good thing about under counter TV’s is that they do not take up a lot of space, however id you plan to install a satellite receive, external video or for that matter a game console. You need to consider the extra space it will take and if it is in the kitchen you need to think out a plan where you can avoid those extra peripherals getting dirty and greasy from the cooking.

Some of the models can be a little bit difficult to figure out when it comes to the digital installation and initializing of TV channels etc. But they all comes with manuals and you can always ask for advices if it is a major concern of yours.

Remember to check your dimensions and see whether your have room for the model you want or not. All models at Amazon have their dimensions listed so you can be sure they will fit into your preferred place.
